Multi-epoxy groups anchoring on graphene oxide and solvent-free mixing with epoxy resin to enhance mechanical and frictional properties

In this research, N, N, O-triglycidyl-p-aminophenol (AFG-90) is anchored on GO (AFG-90-NGO) and further mixed with epoxy resin (EP) as a filler by a convenient solvent-free mixing method. The structure and composition of thus obtained AFG-90-NGO were characterized. It was found that the AFG-90-NGO improves the mechanical and frictional properties of EP. The effect of surface modification on the morphology and dispersion of AFG-90-NGO and the influence on the mechanical properties and frictional properties of the composites were investigated in detail. The results demonstrated that the dispersion and interfacial bonding of AFG-90-NGO were significantly improved in comparison with those of GO. Compared with pure EP, the tensile strength, flexural strength, flexural modulus, and impact strength of 0.1 wt% AFG-90-NGO epoxy composite increased by 30.33 %, 30.14 %, 32.52 %, and 60.58 %, respectively, and the average friction coefficient decreased by 27.98 %.
