In this work, Ti6Al4V titanium alloy was surface modified by boron-aluminizing with rare-earth oxides (RE-B-Al), in which the first step is boriding with rare-earth oxides (RE-B) and the second step is aluminizing. The wear properties of the samples were tested by friction wear experiments. The results indicated that the B-Al layer by RE-B-Al is mainly composed of TiB 2 layer, TiB whisker intermediate layer, and Al3Ti inner layer. After RE-B-Al process, the surface elastic moduli of RE-B-Al samples are higher than Ti6Al4V alloy. The wear type of Ti6Al4V alloy is adhesive wear, while the that of the RE-B-Al samples is abrasive and adhesive wear.
