The fretting wear resistance of Ti64 alloy improved with the incorporation of circular surface textures and CrN-MoS2-Ag coatings fabricated using Nd: YAG laser and RF Magnetron Sputter deposition technique. Evaluation with a reciprocating ball-on-disc tribometer shows substantial enhancements in friction and wear properties. Notably, CrN-MoS2-Ag coatings on textured surfaces demonstrate the most effective reduction in friction and wear. The coatings on textured surface demonstrate exceptional wear resistance in compared to the among all tested surfaces, representing a significant 74.4% and 60.4% improvement in wear resistance compared to substrate surface under sliding loads of 20 N and 30 N. Integrating solid lubricants (MoS2 and Ag) into micro-dimples on the substrate surface plays a pivotal role in "mechanical self-locking," expanding surface contact area, and providing secondary lubrication. This significantly extends the wear life of the Ti64 alloy, highlighting the combined benefits of surface texturing, coatings, and solid lubricant incorporation.
